Cederberg

Three days a few hours' drive north. None of these are established routes or must-dos: we'd park on the side of the road, wander off into the hills and scramble up whatever looked good. There's a lot of cool off-trail wandering in the orange sandstone if you want it. Watch for scorpions (most are harmless, but the thick-tailed ones can be dangerous) and snakes, including puff adders, berg adders and Cape cobras. Look before you put a hand on a ledge or step into brush.
